Kelly Riordan
Meet Kelly
Kelly Riordan is an American mezzo-soprano who has been praised for her “exuberant honesty” onstage and her “beautiful vibrancy and warmth” of tone. Based in Denver, she currently enjoys a diverse career performing, teaching, and conducting research internationally. She has performed roles including Hänsel (Hänsel und Gretel), Marcellina (Le nozze di Figaro), and Mother (Amahl and the Night Visitors). Kelly also enjoys collaborating in recital and concert repertoire, with particular interest in performing works by composers who have been intentionally excluded from the classical canon. In the 2022/23 season, Kelly collaborated with Exilarte: Center for Banned Music and the Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Wien under the Fulbright scholarship in Vienna, Austria. She began an ongoing project studying and performing lieder by Robert Fürstenthal, one of the numerous exiled Jewish artists who faced persecution under the Third Reich. Kelly is also interested in the mind-body connection as it relates to vocal pedagogy. Her last research project “Singing to Heal: Exploring the Mind-Body Connection to Encourage Mental-Wellness in Singers” speaks to her holistic artist approach to teaching and performing. Kelly is a member of the Contemporary Alexander Technique School (CAS) where she is training to teach Alexander Technique. She integrates this training into her thriving private voice studio. Kelly graduated with a master’s degree in vocal performance and pedagogy from University of Colorado, Boulder in 2021.

exuberant honesty and a vibrant, warm tone
Teaching studio.
As a voice teacher with nearly 10 years of experience, Kelly blends tools from the great Bel Canto teachers with modern scientifically-informed knowledge of vocal acoustics and an in-depth study of embodied anatomy. She teaches students of all ages and experience levels. Kelly's pedagogy is focused on curiosity, exploration, and play. Expressing ourselves through voice is one of the most fundamental aspects of being human. In lessons, she will encourage you to make new (and silly) sounds that feel connected to your whole body. Tools like Alexander Technique and props like straws and bouncy balls may make their way into lessons. After all, mastery ought to be fun!
